It's the game you remember from the NES, adapted to work with the Wiimote.
The iconic pack-in game for the Nintendo Entertainment System returns to
life on Virtual Console, and one anxious YouTuber couldn't wait for
Christmas and went ahead and downloaded it from the Japanese eShop.
Duck Hunt, which hits Virtual Console internationally December 25,
has been updated to take advantage of the Wiimote and sensor bar.
Anyone who's plugged in their NES to an HDTV has suffered the heartbreak
of learning first-hand that the trusty NES Zapper doesn't work with
modern sets. If you want to recreate the Christmas morning of your 1980s
youth (assuming you were even alive back then), this is the best
solution.
Duck Hunt Dog was brought out of retirement for Super Smash Bros. for
Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Seeing the game appear on
the Wii U Virtual Console seemed like a foregone conclusion. Hopefully
the tech Nintendo used to adapt the targeting to the Wii U can be
transferred to other light gun games like Hogan's Alley, which has been
part of the original Wii's VC service for some time, or even the mostly
forgotten Super Scope Six games that graced the Super NES.
