New Problems With Assassin's Creed Unity Patch 4

Some Xbox One owners discover the patch weighs 40GB; Ubisoft says disc uninstall may resolve issue.

Publisher Ubisoft has confirmed that the forth patch for Assassin's Creed: Unity on Xbox One may unintentionally require a 40GB download.

The forth patch is supposed to weigh 6.7GB, but some users are reporting that the update replaces the entire base game. "This is obviously not the expected behaviour, and we apologize that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download," Ubisoft wrote.

It added that this issue isn’t causing any additional problems. However, Ubisoft added that, while it's working with Microsoft to resolve the issue, it cannot yet put a timeline on a permanent solution.

"Currently there is one known workaround," the company added. "Owners of the disc version of the game can uninstall the game and reinstall it. On starting the game, the patch process will start with the correct download size."

It is not believed that the same issue exists with the PlayStation 4 version of Assassin's Creed: Unity.

A quick-hit rundown of Unity Patch 4 is available below, courtesy of Ubisoft, while you can see the full patch notes at the game's forums.

  • Performance & Stability: Frame rate drops, game crashes, lost progression
  • Gameplay: Navigation, lock picking chests
  • Online: Connectivity, matchmaking, companion app
Unity was released in November, though it--like other big-name games this year--suffered through some technical troubles out of the gate. Ubisoft has released a number of patches so far, and is even offering up free DLC and full-games to apologize for the bugs.
