Add storage and swap cameras without powering down.
Teams at Google have been searching for a way to swap phone components
as better ones release, much like someone with a high-end PC might do
when they upgrade. And with new details on Project Ara, Google may be
one step closer.
Project Ara has been a prototype for a while now, but more specifics bring it to the forefront. Users will be able to swap out components such as the camera, or storage, on the fly, according to Geek. Most other swaps, however, will likely require a reboot, or a complete power-down, in the case of the battery or processor.
The device will also run the most recent version of Android at launch ––
in this case, a modified version of Android L. Essentially, Project Ara
will have independent updates for the interlocking hardware it's
boasting.
