Get ready, iOS and Android games are coming to your Vita.
Sony has made it easier for game creators to bring their mobile games to the PlayStation Vita and PlayStation TV platforms by launching the official version of its Unity for PlayStation Mobile development software.
Released as a public preview earlier this year, Unity for PlayStation
Mobile allows for developers to easily port their titles created for the
iPhone, iPad, and Android devices, while also providing tools to easily
create games that utilize the PlayStation Vita's dual-analog sticks and
rear touchpad. As part of the PlayStation Mobile program, creators are
able to distribute their games through the PlayStation Store.
Best of all, developers that are part of the PSM Developer Program can
publish their games to the PlayStation Store free of charge, and this
version of PlayStation Mobile works with both the free version of Unity
as well as Unity Pro.
Sony recently revealed that fewer first-party games will be coming to its handheld, although president of Sony World Wide Studios Shuhei Yoshida believes that the PlayStation Now streaming service will help ensure a strong gaming lineup for the Vita.
Originally released in Japan, PlayStation TV is heading to North
America, as well as European and PAL markets. PlayStation TV is
currently available for pre-order through Amazon for $100 USD.
