It's time to say goodbye.
It's time to say sayonora to wi-fi functionality on your Wii and DS, as Nintendo has terminated the service.
Nintendo's last generation of devices used Glu Mobile's GameSpy Technologies' server and matchmaking services to power online play. Those services are due to be shut down tomorrow, affecting the online components of hundreds of games.
Fortunately, Nintendo took online services in-house with the 3DS and Wii
U, and while you will no longer be able to use online features such as
online play, matchmaking, and leaderboards on your DS and Wii, the Wii
Shop Channel and Nintendo DSI shop will remain open.
"We at Nintendo sincerely thank our fans for their continued support of
our company’s legacy systems," the company stated on its website. "Your
enthusiasm for games made for these systems speaks to their longevity
and the passion of Nintendo fans."
